ABOUT
For two evenings LJMU’s Exhibition Research Centre opens to the public as part of a larger three day research event that includes PhD workshops, discussions, and presentations. Excessive Research is a forum for international researchers to enter into speculation, critique, exchange and dialogue about their research in relation to the latest festival announcement of transmediale, Berlin. Its 2016 festival theme ‘Conversation Piece’ aims to highlight the compulsive actions of digital culture, and how we are constantly encouraged to stay active, to make, to share and to secure. The public events, like the workshop, further encourage us to consider the nature of these actions and their limits, asking what happens when research is less about exchange and more about excess?

The project is organised by APRJA (A Peer-Reviewed Journal About_), Participatory IT Research Centre, Aarhus University, transmediale/art&digitalculture, Liverpool John Moores University in partnership with Liverpool Biennial. It results in the publication of a peer-reviewed newspaper to be launched at transmediale festival in February, and a dedicated issue of the open access online academic journal, APRJA.
